Nature Based Education
Balch Nature PreschoolSt. Johnsbury, VT
Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium Website We believe children are born with a desire to explore and understand the natural world, and that early experiences with nature set a precedent for lifelong learning and well-being. We provide children with special nature-centered opportunities to learn about themselves, the world, life. We develop curriculum in response to students' interests. We offer students a range of "real" materials--water, soil, rocks, plants, snow. Balch children learn by doing; they play in the mud, climb on logs, follow insects, and plant seeds. By guiding young children to connect with the natural world in our nurturing, hands-on, discovery-oriented program, we seek to inspire a lifelong love of nature, and foster a lasting environmental ethic. |
Field, Farm, & Forest PreschoolLyndonville, VT
Darling Hill Rd. (617) 504-7953 Outdoor Exploration and Nature Based Education Learning for Children and Their Families. What if we thought of kids as pumpkin seeds. Some come w/ genetic 'flaws' like bumps or stripes. Some grow too fast if you put them in too rich a spot and no fruit will form. Some will form fruit, but not quite as fast as you'd expect or want..... you get the idea. But if given time, space, proper growing conditions, they will all thrive and grow fruit, even if it might have a few bumps or stripes. And with luck and goodwill the other pumpkins won't notice those bumps and stripes as defects but as groovy patterns that make the patch more interesting. And, who knows where some of those seeds will end up and thrive anyway? Sometimes pumpkins thrive in the most unexpected places! We cannot predict their future but we can try our best to ensure they have a good start. |
